The Daily Morning Makeup Bag!

I wake up around 6:30 AM on weekdays and I share a room with my roommate. I don't want to wake her up so early and so I often put my "must have" items in a makeup bag to take out in the living room to do my makeup.

These items have consistently been in the bag and I usually take most of these items when I'm away from my apartment for the weekend as well!

In my small Z-Palette, I have some neutral staples that can create no-makeup makeup looks to more dark and smokey looks.

The products -
  • Benefit Blush in Rockateur (review here)
  • theBalm Eyeshadows in Sultry, Seductive, Sleek, and Serious
  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Virgin
  • Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadow in Grandstand
  • Wet n Wild Comfort Zone palette - rose gold shade
  • Pony x Memebox Eyeshadow in Easy Brown
As I have mentioned in previous blog posts, I love to use the Pony x Memebox Eyeshadow in Easy Brown as a contour and the Benefit Rockateur is the perfect every day blush for me. I really like rose gold eyeshadows as well since they're a slight twist on neutral shades. Makeup Geek Grandstand is more of a cool toned rose gold and the one from the WNW palette is slightly more warm, but not as pigmented or metallic. I also always need a golden bronze eyeshadow like theBalm Seductive since they suit my eyes the best.

theBalm eyeshadows are the perfect size once depotted because they're pigmented and small enough to fit even more things into custom palettes like Z-Palettes. In a pinch, I also use Serious (matte black) as an eyeliner to slightly define my eyes.

More Eyes & Brow Products
  • Anastasia Brow Wiz in Soft Brown (review here)
  • L'oreal Brow Stylist Plumper Brow Gel Mascara in Medium to Dark
  • Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper
  • Mally Evercolor Shadow Stick in Saddle Shimmer (review here)
  • Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara in Very Black
  • Benefit They're Real Mascara
  • Urban Decay Subversion Mascara Primer (review here)
  • Marc Jacobs Gel Highliner in Blacquer (review here)
  • Wet n Wild x Fergie Eyeshadow Primer (review here)
I don't actually like the Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara that much because it's a bit too wet for me. It often gets on my lids and smudges my eyeshadow, but it was the only waterproof mascara at the time and so I wanted to use it up before buying a new one.

Lately, I've just be layering the Benefit They're Real on top of Urban Decay Subversion + any waterproof mascara "base" to give me thicker and longer lashes. I don't wear false lashes often and they're definitely too much for office work, and so this primer + extra mascara combo gives me what I need while still look fresh and professional.

The Kat Von D Tattoo Liner is a cult favorite, but it kind of flakes on my inner corners. It bothers me, but not enough to fully stop using it. I really love the brush applicator though because it gives me the most precise wing in one go ever. I recently bought two liners from Asian brands that I'm trying out that are also brush type. They're highly talked about and so I have high hopes!!

If I only have a little time, I just wiggle the L'oral Brow Stylist Plumper all over my brows and then comb them up to give them a more bushy and full appearance. Personally, that's all I need but I sometimes use a brow pencil like the Anastasia Brow Wiz to fill in gaps as well.

The base products
  • Cover FX Custom Cover Drops in G40 (review here)
  • Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation in No. 54 Beige (review here)
  • Tarte Timeless Smoothing Primer
  • Smashbox Photo Finish Pore Minimizing Foundation Primer
  • Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer
  • Milani Rose Powder Blush in Blossomtime Rose
I feel like I haven't found a great primer yet, but I do really love the Tarte Timeless Smoothing Primer to fill in my pores. I don't know if I find the wear time prolonged, but it does smooth out my face. The Smashbox Pore Minimizing Foundation Primer is a much thinner version of that, but it's still thicker than the original Smashbox primers.

I have praised the Cover FX Custom Cover Drops whenever I could and so I won't go into it too much, but it's great for building up coverage. I also love the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation, but it gives too much of a glow (and then oily appearance) for me right now since it's summer.

The Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer is definitely more warm and it's showing up very orange in the above picture, but it's a very nice bronzer. I can use it to contour in a pinch, but it shows up too warm in pictures to wear if I think I'm going to get photographed.

I have also praised the Milani Rose Powder Blushes non-stop and the Limited Edition shade in Blossomtime Rose is no exception. It's like a mix between NARS' Orgasm and Deep Throat. It was the base color of Deep Throat but the gold shimmer of Orgasm.

I also want to give a shoutout to Wet 'n' Wild Fergier Shimmer Palette in Rose Champagne Glow (review here), but mine broke!!! I was going to rebuy it, but I'm going to hold off and try to use some of my other highlighters first.

What are your daily necessity beauty products? What are your must have products in the morning?

Ps. Second shout out to Vietnamese coffee. You're my best friend <3

  1. Thanks for sharing your picks! I really need to pony up for the KVD Tattoo Liner and the Marc Jacobs gel liner some day...

  2. Oh how nice of you to go into another space to do your face! I haven't had to do that much but when I'm traveling I realize how it's important to be able to work with the space and what you've got! Whether it be on a bed, below a bed, on a small desk, on the floor or in the bathroom! I just need somewhere with good light! Loved seeing your make up pouch (or shall I say bag!) I don't carry any make up in pouches with me or store them in any unless I'm traveling. My daily MUST haves include my ZA powder, kiss me heroine eyeliner/mascara, a good berry pink blush, a rich lip balm and shimmery neutral shadows!

  3. You're welcome!! I highly highly recommend the Marc Jacobs gel liner!! It's the best thing ever. Asian companies like Dolly Wink and K-Palette have similar formulas / brush applicator like the Tattoo Liner and the price is maybe a few bucks cheaper depends on where you get it. I kind of like the K-Palette one better than the Tattoo liner too!

  4. I neeeeed to have good lighting for when I do my makeup!! I'm fine with on the floor and bed, but only if there's at least a sliver of good lighting hahaha

I found a place near me that sells the Kiss Me Heroine Mascara! but it was around $20- $25 and so I'll stick to my Maybelline stuff for now. :( But drugstore products have been raising in prices though D:

  5. Replying to the comment you left me! Thanks a lot for thinking my skin looks good, it tend to look pretty good most days but I do get bumps on the sides of my face and I'm prone to both oily and dry skin issues! Really can be irritating when my forehead seeps oil but the skin around my mouth is dry! And those rice wrapped spring rolls are how I've had them my whole life! When I lived in vietnam when I was really young and in other asian countries when we'd order vienamese spring rolls there's either the typical smooth wrap or the rice wrapped ones which I much prefer. The skin is textured and so freaking crispy you gotta try them!

  6. Oh also I'm not surprised by those marked up prices since it's being sold in the US! All drugstore mascaras (maybelline, l'oreal, revlon) are $15-18 USD over here...and it's the same for kiss me heroine so I usually never bother trying mascaras from l'oreal and revlon. I just go straight for the japanese brands since they're priced the same! But you really must try it in the future, it's the best thing I've ever tried mascara wise, the formulation is a bit wet in the start and you need to run the brush against the tube to get some product off but it becomes perfect really quickly.

  7. Oh noooo I was hoping the KVD would be better than the K-palette. Blah... I tried that one and it wasn't for me. Is there any reason why you liked K-palette better?

  8. Actually, I think the problem lies with me hahaha The inner third of my linner kind of flakes/crumbles, but it happens with both the KVD and K-Palette liner. I also have another Asian Brand that's somethingsomething Eyes Cream Liner Coffe Black? and it happens with that one as well. I like the K-Palette one more out of the three because it happens a bit less. Besides that, all three are precise and pigmented and so it's really hard to say which one is better.

I also have a Marc Jacobs liquid pen style liner, but that one is a felt tip. The lasting power is insane and it takes every cleanser product I use to remove it completely, but I can never get my wing right with it. D:
