Review & Swatches: Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara is Benefit Cosmetics' latest release! I was able to get a sample of it through a Sephora order before its official release date, which is today. The main claims and aspects of this mascara is about their "Hook 'n' Roll" wand that will hook onto each lash to visibly lift and curl the lashes. The Roller Lash Mascara contains 0.30 ounces of product and retails for $24.

Makeup Lust List #4

I seriously tried so hard not to buy anything, but I guess my "IT'S MY BIRTHDAY MONTH" mindset is still in set and so I bought some things recently. Buuuut, this post is not supposed to be about that. I compiled another makeup lust list after some serious window shopping / browsing online. I bought small things recently, but these items cost way more anything than those things I brought.

My lipstick lover side of me is also very apparent in this post.

Bésame Cosmetics in Noir (left) and Red Velvet (right) - I've been really into Marvel's Agent Carter and Peggy wears the shade Red Velvet. Since I am beyond weak and not badass as her, I wanted to at least wear the same lipstick shade. I just want Noir because I've been loving deeper shades.

MAC Cosmetics Lipstick in Victoriana - Another red shade. What a surpriseeee. Sarcasm aside, I've been wanting a matte pinky red. The description sounds like what I want, but the swatches have shown it as a pretty bright color. I need to see it in person, but it does look lovely.

Charlotte Tilbury Makeup Bag - blahblahi'malipstickloverblahblah, but I also love lip prints. The bag is more expensive than other makeup bags and so this is not as necessary to me, but that print!! I've been simultaneously convincing myself to get it and not to get it since the bag was released. Of course I want her other makeup products, but that's for another day.

NARS NARSissist Dual Intensity Eyeshadow Palette - Speaking of expensive products, this is $79 and there's no way I'm willing to spend that amount on one palette (yet). Every blogger has been raving about the dual intensity formula and how this palette is necessary, but that price tag. The colors are so beautiful and the limited edition brown shade is making me want to get the palette just for it.

Tarte Tarteist Clay Paint Liner - I've tried cream / gel liners and the pot and separate brush annoyed me. It's mostly because I hated how fast potted products dried, but now there's one less con because the product is a tube. JKissa on YouTube has demoed using this product and it looks amazing.

Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Tinted Pressed Finishing Powder - Thanks to a former co-worker, I was able to get a deluxe sample of the untinted pressed version of this powder. I've already been a huge fan of the loose version and quite like the pressed version as well. A part of me just wants to try out the tinted version to see how much coverage it'll give, but the powders in this line are amazing.

What products have you been lusting over?

Review & Swatches: NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella and Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien

For this year's Sephora Birthday Gift, VIBs and Beauty Insiders are receiving mini sizes of NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella and Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien. Cruella is described as a matte "scarlet red" and it's a darker neutral red that'll fit anyone. Rikugien is described as a "rose pink" and has a shimmery, almost frosty, finish to it. On my skintone, it's a MLBB shade but the finish might not be for everyone. The full sizes of each retail for $26, but the Velvet Matte Lip Pencils contain 0.086 ounces and the Satin Lip Pencils contain 0.07 ounces.

Collection: MAC Lipsticks!

I'm starting a semi- no buy / project pan and so I decided to go through my collection to acknowledge what I already have to stop myself from buying a million more of the same shade. Red lipsticks and golden bronze eyeshadows always get me. MAC Lipsticks are often talked about and so I decided my first collection post would be about the ones I own. I used to have a few more, but I sold them because they were either too similar to what I already have or the color wasn't what I was expected.

See Sheer (Permanent, Lustre finish) was my first MAC lipstick and it's probably one of my favorite lipsticks ever. The arm swatch shows that it leans more on the coral side, but it's more of a watermelon pinky red. On my lips, it is the most wearable red and I recommend it to everyone. It is sheer and shiny because of the lustre finish, but I find that I can build it up to be opaque.

Viva Glam I (Permanent, Matte Finish) is a dark brick red and is my go to red because of the longevity. The color is also very flattery on me and almost on everyone I've seen wearing this. It's creamy and unlike some other MAC Mattes, I didn't find it to be too drying. Since this lipstick is part of the Viva Glam program, all the proceeds go to a good cause and so wearing this makes me feel better about my purchase.

Crosswires (Permanent, Cremesheen) is kind of like the pinkier and more opaque version of See Sheer on me. Cremesheens are supposed to be more moisturizing than mattes and less moisturizing than lustres and I found that to be true for this lipstick. I don't wear this color that often, even though it's so pretty, because it applies a bit weird on my lips. My lips need to be the perfect moisturized without any moisture texture for this color to go on well, but that ends up making my lips feel slightly dry from the get-go.

Plumful (Permanent, Lustre) is a muted plum that also has a nice shine to it. It's definitely more opaque than See Sheer too. I mostly bought this lipstick because of Estée's raves from Essiebutton, but I don't actually wear it that often. A lot of my other color products (eyeshadow, blush, etc.) don't seem to fit in Plumful's color scheme and so I become limited in what to wear when I have this lipstick on. It's still a nice color, but just doesn't fit in my current makeup collection.

Viva Glam Rihanna 2 (Limited Edition / Discontinued, Frost) is a super frosty taupe brown. I'm not sure what I was thinking when I got this because it doesn't fit into my collection even more than Plumful. I think I was excited about working at a makeup place that would be okay with me wearing this kind of color and so I bought it on an impulse. I still think it's unique and will try to incorporate it into my looks, but meh. It's more of a novelty to me now because of the packaging and limited edition aspect to it.

From my experience of MAC lipsticks, I really love the lustre and matte finishes. Lustres are wearable and not sticky like glosses and their mattes just last so long and look so nice. They both have their downsides mostly due to individual inconsistencies, but those finishes are a great starter for anyone wanting to buy MAC lipsticks.

*Viva Glam I and Crosswires were gifts from my boyfriend for an anniversary and Plumful was a gift from my friend for a past Christmas.

After my no buy ends, what MAC lipstick would you recommend to me?

Review & Swatches: Sugarpill Loose Eyeshadow in Pastelle

Loose Eyeshadow in Pastelle was a limited edition shade that was just recently released along with their 9 new shades. I was hesitant on doing a review on this shade because it's no longer available, but some people mentioned that it would still be nice to see. Thanks for the comments (: Pastelle has a light pastel cool toned pink with a golden shimmer / duochrome. Like Countess, it contains 5 grams and retailed for $13.

Review & Swatches: Sugarpill Loose Eyeshadow in Countess

Sugarpill Loose Eyeshadow in Countess is one of Sugarpill's most recent shade releases and it is permanent. I also got Pastelle, but comment below if I should still do a review on it even though it's sold out / limited edition! Countess is a "metallic maroon with a splash of aqua reflects." For me, I see everything except the aqua reflects until I am in direct sunlight. Countess is vegan like the majority of Sugarpill's products and the whole brand is also cruelty free. There is 5 grams of product and retails for $13.

FOTD - Feb 7, 2015 // Feeling 22!

My birthday was on the 7th and this was the look I wore for my fancy dinner with my boyfriend! I was aiming for a more understated but classic look. I wore a gorgeous black lace dress I got from H&M and since my hair was already so striking, I thought a lovely cool toned nude look would do.

Here are all the products I used and I'll be naming them off to go with the below pictures.

For a primer, I used the Mally Evercolor Poreless Face Defender (review here) to smooth out my face and I applied Benefit High Beam on my cheek bones. I was going to use another powder highlight, but having a liquid highlighter underneath my foundation lets me have a more "lit from within" kind of glow as well.

Makeup Forever HD Invisible Cover Foundation in #127 (review here) is my go to foundation for any kind of event since it looks the best in pictures. I wanted more coverage, and so I actually mixed a half pump of the MUFE foundation with a half pump of MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NC35.

I contoured using Benefit Hoola and gave my cheeks some color using Hourglass Ambient Lighting blush in Mood Exposure. Mood Exposure is plummy nude color and it's definitely been my favorite blush ever since I've gotten it. For highlight, I used Wet n Wild Fergie Centerstage Collection Shimmer Palette in Rose Champagne Glow (review here). Using High Beam alone could be enough for a normal day, but I wanted to look even more glowy in pictures.

My eye look was a whole mess of a thing. The pictures don't show the eye look as dark as it actually was, but I had a more smokey look going on. The curl even dropped for some reason. I think I didn't put on enough of a waterproof "base" and so the primer and other mascara weighed and straightened out my lashes. Oh well, I did end up liking the final product!

For the base, I used Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze to give my eyes a nice shimmer. I used theBalm Eyeshadow in Sultry (matte midtone brown) in the crease as well as on the lower lashline. theBalm Eyeshadow in Sleek (matte dark brown) was used to deepen the outer corner and elongate the shape of my eyes. The last theBalm Eyeshadow I used was Selfish (shimmery taupe) and I used it on the inner half of my lids to make it even more shimmery. All of theBalm eyeshadows I used was from the Nude 'Tude palette.

For brows, I used Life's Entropy Brow Theory Pomade in Blonde (review here) to give a base to my brows. I paired it up with Anastasia Beverley Hills Brow Wiz in Dark Brown to draw in more hairs where I needed it.

I forgot to include the pictures of the eyeliners, but I used Marc Jacobs Beauty Gel Highliner in Blacquer (review here) to tightline the upper waterline. I also lined the outer half of the upper lashline using Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner in Black (review here).

For my lashes, I applied L'oreal Telescopic Shocking Extensions Waterproof Mascara on the upper and lower lashes. I used Urban Decay Subversion Primer (review here) to thicken up my lashes and finally applied Maybelline Lash Sensational in Blackest Black. As I mentioned before, my curl straightened out and so I decided to use Urban Decay Fast Easy Sexy Partial Lashes in Instaflare to give my eyes more drama. I feel like these look the best on me when my lashes are straight. They're way too long and obvious when my lashes are more curled.

My boyfriend treated me out to a steak dinner and so I just wanted to have a tinted lip balm on. The one I used was Korres Lip Butter in Plum and it moisturized my lips while giving my lips life.

and here's a bonus picture while I was getting ready!

The only full body shot I took last night. My dress was from H&M and I thought it was gorgeous. It has lace long sleeves, but the body has another layer that's so silky and comfortable.

How was your weekend?

*The lashes were free from a grand opening event I went to and the Maybelline Mascara was also free, but from a beauty concierge from Target. I also won the Korres lip butter from a contest on Reddit. I paid for everything else myself.

Review & Swatches: NARS Blush in Douceur

NARS Blush in Douceur is described as a "soft pink brown" and I would say that the description is very accurate. Douceur is one of NARS cult blush shades and rumors come up every once in a while that it's being discontinued. It's often out of stock on Sephora's website and it's no longer available on NARS' website. Douceur contains 0.16 ounces / 4.8 grams of product and retails for $30.

Review & Swatches: Life's Entropy Brow Theory Pomade in Blonde

Life's Entropy Brow Theory Pomade in Blonde is a new permanent item that is supposed to be a dupe for Anastasia Beverly Hill's Dipbrow Pomade. The claims include being waterproof, smudge proof, and highly pigmented. The Brow Theory Pomades are vegan and also cruelty free. Each pot contains 4 grams and retail for $12.

January 2015 Face of the Month // Rosey Glow

If you saw my Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation review here or Wet n Wild Rose Champagne Glow review here, then you would've seen some of the pictures from this post already! I wanted to dedicate a whole post on this look because it's the look that I've worn the most during January. Some of the products are also some of my favorites for this month, but I thought it would be more fun to show the look plus some other products instead.

Product list -
  • Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation in #54 Beige (review here)
  • Wet n Wild Fergie Centerstage Collection Shimmer Palette in Rose Champagne Glow (review here)
  • Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzer
  • L'oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Amber Rush (review here)
  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Nooner (review here)
  • jane. Water Resistant Eyeliner in Rose Gold (review here)
  • Maybelline Volum' Express The Rocket Waterproof Mascara in Very Black
  • Life's Entropy Brow Theory Pomade in Blonde
  • Lime Crime Velvetine in Cashmere (review here)
  • MAC Cosmetics Viva Glam I Lipstick (review here)

For the eyes, I applied L'oreal Amber Rush all over the lids and on the outer 2/3rds of the lower lashline. It makes a great shimmery rose gold (leaning on the copper side) wash of color.

I then applied Urban Decay Nooner on top of where Amber Rush was.

I finished off with applying the jane. Rose Gold liner on my lower lashline and some mascara.

For the rest of the face, I dusted the Wet n Wild Rose Champagne Glow on my cheekbones and the Benefit Hoola in my contour area.

For the lips, I first applied Viva Glam I on my upper lip, but focused it more on the middle. I applied Cashmere on my lower lip, then just mushed my lips together to mix the color. The color doesn't always come out consistently like what you see above, but it always looks wearable and gorgeous.

What have you been wearing this month?
