Cream Eye Shadows are some of my favorite eye products because they're easy to use and stay on all day. I'm missing the Colourpop Super Shock Shadows that I reviewed on Wednesday, but you can read about them here.
I also have a L'oreal Infalliable Eyeshadow in Amber Rush, but that's more of a pressed pigment than cream eyeshadow to em. It is a gorgeous rose gold that leans copper and highly recommend it to everyone though!
I've had some of these for years and the newest ones were bought just a few weeks ago.
Left to right -
Mally Beauty Evercolor Shadow Stick in Rose Taupe and Saddle Shimmer (review here)
Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Bronze Have More Fun (review here)
MAC Paint Pot in Indianwood
Givenchy Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow in Rose Dentelle (review here)
Ulta Color Coat Cream Eyeshadow in Rose Gold
Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze, Tough As Taupe, Black Orchid and Rose Riot
My first ever cream eyeshadow (and MAC product!) was MAC Paint Pot in Indianwood and was around $16. It's crazy to think that they're $21 now. I was in between this color and Rubenesque, but I thought Rubenesque would be too light.
The Mally Beauty Evercolor Shadow Sticks are probably my favorite out of all these cream shadows. They're more portable and easy to store. They also last forever and more waterproof than the rest of the shadows.
My least favorite are the Maybelline Color Tattoos, but that sounds weird because I have 4 of them. They're very affordable and Maybelline releases new colors very frequently. Tough As Taupe is very dry and I ended up throwing it away. A lot of people use it as a contour, but it really didn't work for me. Bad To The Bronze is also dry, but works way better than Tough As Taupe. Rose Riot and Black Orchid are very creamy and have a thinner texture. Rose Riot turns more into a silvery pinky tinted color instead of what you see in the pot
The Givenchy Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadows are matte and have an almost powdery feel to them. Rose Dentelle is the perfect base for the Naked 3 Palette-esque colors and works so well. The other colors in this line don't interest me as much, but I really love the one I got since the color is more unique.
Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadows are more gel-like than cream. They're thin like Rose Riot and Black Orchid. I mostly bought Bronze Have More Fun because it's supposed to be really close to Urban Decay's Eyeshadow in Smog, which is my favorite eye shadow color.
The Ulta Color Coat Cream Eyeshadow is pretty good, but I would not pay $8 for them. I got this when there was a buy 2 get 2 free deal and so it was more like $4 before their $3.50 off $10 coupon. The texture is better than Bad to the Bronze, but not as nice as the higher end shadows. Even though the color is a Rose Gold, it leans more on the pink side.
& that's my overview of my cream eye shadow collection! I really want to try out more from different brands like Laura Mercier and Bobbi Brown, but I'll wait till I have a job again to buy those.
What are your favorite cream shadows? Do you prefer cream or powder shadows?
so happy to see this review. i'm prepping for summer weddings and i've been thinking about cream eyeshadows to start as a base. i was looking at benefit specifically but seems like i'll need to go the mally route.
ReplyDeleteOh my, you've got me jumping in envy over here!!! I would love to have those two mally sticks and I wish maybelline did release more than the only 10 standard shades we already have! I also had tough as taupe and threw it out! I'm actually on my second pot of bad to the bronze and mine have been really creamy and lovely! I would love to have Black orchid and rose riot as well as the Givenchy shadow you have! Basically I'm lusting after more interesting neutrals right now. No more bronzes and cocoas but neutrals with undertones of pinks, rose golds, purples and so on! Love your collection! I Love cream shadows but usually use them as bases although many are good on their own. My favorites right now are from shiseido, kiko and maybelline.
ReplyDeleteI hear the Benefit formula is sometimes a hit or miss with the lighter colors. I used to have RSVP and that shade is also gorgeous, but it's soooo shimmery.
ReplyDeleteYou won't go wrong with the Mally cream shadows! She even has a set that includes the Evercolor Poreless Face Defender and that's my favorite touch up and even primer
Thanks!! Mally isn't super talked about, but I love her products. She has a holiday set with all of the cream shadow colors and I missed out :( I was so sad but I hope she releases it again soon.
ReplyDeleteI want to try out more kiko products mostly because of the price hahaha but it's harder to find in the States
The iridescence of some of those shades are to die for! I only have 2 cream eyeshadows from Benefit, but I've never been wow'd by them. Your post makes me want to go out and try some more!
ReplyDeleteI think their formulas are a hit or miss, but I had to get Bronze Have More Fun because the color is so close to Urban Decay Smog. I had RSVP in their original formula and I wasn't that much of a fan, but the color was so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI don't really like cream eyeshadows since I find I need to dip my fingers in the pot a lot of the time since I haven't found a good brush to use with them. The color tattoos dry up really quickly! Never liked them that much since they crease on me :/
ReplyDeleteI understand! I have sensitive eyes and so I should be more careful, but I usually apply them right after I've washed my hands. Stick eyeshadows might work better for you though! I had a Neutrogena one that worked, but wasn't as creamy as the Mally ones. I also think I lost it.....
ReplyDeleteFinally! Someone else that doesn't love the color tattoos. I usually don't have problems with creasing, but the product themselves just... didn't work as well as I wanted them to.
I haven't tried cream shadows yet. Your review looks tempting!

Oh Dear Bumblebees
You should really try them out! They're the perfect lazy eye product because you don't even need a primer for most cream eyeshadows. Just a quick swipe and mascara and you have a perfect eye look.
ReplyDeleteAww that's too bad that you didn't like the Color Tattoos - I have Black Orchid and Barely Beige and I love them!
ReplyDeleteI would love to try MAC Paintpots, heard so many amazing things about this product! Love your swatches ^^
ReplyDeleteHey Hao! Just had to reply to your comments you just left me! Zoeva is totally worth trying once you have a more affordable way to get them. Their face brushes and their eye shadows are total gems! Also Maybelline may have more interesting looking things in asia and we do get somethings not released in the US like BB cream foundation cake and so on but singapore does not have a better selection! I wish we did! We've only received a total of 10 color tattoos even until today and we just only 6 months ago received 3 shades of dream liquid mousse foundation and 3 shades of the powder despite the line being sold for years in the US. We often have items which are permanent come in for about 1 year and then they're permanently discontinued. I think it's because of the super limited shelf space in our shops. Like we have never had the age rewind concealer and the smokey quads, we've always never had the fit me foundations or the dream wonder foundation...I would love to try all these products but Maybelline here doesn't sell them as well as in other south east asian countries too! :p
ReplyDeleteI feel like I'm the only one that doesn't love them, but I want to. hahaha They're so affordable and they do come out with such gorgeous colors sometimes.
ReplyDeleteYou should try it! I really want to try out Rubenesque and I feel like that shade would be perfect for you.
ReplyDeleteMaybelline needs to step it up everywhere!! I feel like they're one of my favorite drug store brands right now and it would be great to get some of their non-us products as well. I feel like it's weird that they don't have the Fit Me foundations where you're from. It's such a popular foundation everywhere where it's available!
ReplyDeleteHah! Yes, it would be lovely if all their products were sold everywhere. Trust me, for the most part girls south east Asia who are aware of the disparity between the range carried in the US are just lusting over what you guys have access to. It's not strange at all to me that we haven't received like 50% of what your drugstores carry...we are so used to a new product coming our every 6 months usually? Like we don't have the new sensational mascara and we never got the master glaze sticks and powder blushes...we had some of the age rewind line but it's been discontinued more than 6 years ago. If you have the money and time you totally should do a trip to Asia in the near future and bring an allowance for getting Asian make up bits :p
