Review & Swatches: NARS Blush in Douceur

NARS Blush in Douceur is described as a "soft pink brown" and I would say that the description is very accurate. Douceur is one of NARS cult blush shades and rumors come up every once in a while that it's being discontinued. It's often out of stock on Sephora's website and it's no longer available on NARS' website. Douceur contains 0.16 ounces / 4.8 grams of product and retails for $30.

Like I said in the intro, the color is a pinky brown and there is a very very slight shimmer in it to give a natural sheen to the cheeks. The finish of this blush is what I look for in a lot of blushes because mattes can look kind of flat and shimmery blushes can be overwhelming. With this kind of finish, it looks natural and you can even add highlighter on for more glow.

The pinky brown color gives a very natural flush of color. The texture of this blush (and other NARS blushes I've tried) is harder compared to Benefit blushes and I believe the texture contributes to the sheerer color it gives. It's not powdery like softer blushes and it's very easy to blend into the skin.

I'm about a MAC NC35 and people who are one or two shades darker than me can wear it, but deeper skin tones will not be able to see this on their skin.

Left - It Cosmetics CC Cream in Medium and Benefit Hoola Bronzer in the contours
Right - Blush on my cheekbones and blended into the contour

The blush does last at least a good 7-8 hours on me before I see some very slight fading, but I feel like it fades faster than some other blushes because it is sheer. Reapplication is really easy because this blush never looks powdery even with a really heavy hand.

The packaging is the classic sleek rubberized plastic that every NARS product has. I love NARS packaging because it is so simple and chic.

Final thoughts: I'm slightly disappointed because of the sheerer quality of this blush, but it also helps build up and blend in the color so seamlessly. The color of this blush is a really beautiful nude that will look good on anyone, but it's definitely a shade that is more geared towards light to medium skin tones. Douceur looks really boring in the pan, but amazing on the cheeks and so I do recommend it. It pairs up really well with any makeup look too!

What do you think of this blush? Do you have it as well?

  2. I think you should! A lot of people compare Douceur to Tarte's Exposed, and I think Douceur is a million times better. The color would be super flattering on everyone if you're in the right skin tone range hahaha

  3. Ugh, I've been wanting this blush for the longest while, just because I need more nude blushes in my stash, and Tarte's Exposed is just to pink-ish for my liking! I see the 'sheer' part as a benefit--lord knows if I need to build up product, I'll be able to actually finish this blush up in my lifetime!

  4. I don't actually mind blushes being sheer, just as long as they show up on my skin tone eventually :D I got Exposed as a gift, but I don't like it that much. It's so hard that I can barely get any pigment. It's gotten to the point where I hit pan on it, but only because I practically have to dig color out of it.

  5. OMG this shade is fantastic! If you didn't know I love two types of blush colors, berry pinks and brown peachy nudes and this one I'd COVET. It reminds me of my sleek blush in Suede, very similar color and it's matte too. I would totally love this shade!

  7. Seems like it would be a really great "put this on blind b/c I'm running late to work" shade.
