I thought I would be more tired of Favorites, but I ended up using some amazing products during January. I also bought so many new things near the end of 2017 and I'm slowly making through those newer purchases. I've been lazy on work days to do anything more than a wash of color on my lids using a cream eyeshadow, but I've really focused on my base.
Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation in 6 | Review here
My skin has gotten so much better over the last couple of years and now I feel like I've gotten to the stage where I'm pretty comfortable wearing sheer coverage foundations and then maybe some concealer under the eyes. When the Light Wonder foundation first launched, I was thinking that I was never going to be able to wear it. Fast forward a couple of years, I decided to take the plunge since I've also heard that it's one of the most amazing foundations if you like a dewy finish. I feel like my skin feels more plump and smooth when I wear this and it just makes me glow. It's so easy to buff on and go with this foundation and really adds some life back to my face when I'm lacking sleep or maybe just looking dull. I can't recommend this enough if you're looking for a glowy light to light medium coverage base.
Etude House Double Lasting Foundation SPF34 PA++ in N07 Amber
After gushing about a glowy light medium base product, I'm going to now be gushing over a long lasting soft matte medium to full coverage foundation. I'm always flip flopping between wanting a dewy finish and then also a soft or semi matte finish, but I've usually been using the Beauty Bakerie Flour Setting Powder to get that look. Once I got the Etude House Double Lasting Foundation, it's been giving me the perfect soft matte finish that I no longer have to set my whole face with powder anymore. The foundation moves with my skin and so it looks so natural too. I've heard that this foundation is a dupe for the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation, but I don't have that to test out / compare.
Becca Velvet Blurring Primer - Perfecting Base
I don't often wear face primers, but this primer is one of the few that's actually made a difference for me. I've try mattifying primers before but those usually made my face look and feel really dry. I've been wearing SPF everyday as well (go me!) and that's been making me look more shiny in general even though I have dry/dehydrated skin. After reading into the Velvet Blurring Primer from Becca, I decided to give it a go after get a coupon code from Ulta. Right with the first application, I loved how my face felt velvety smooth with a soft matte finish. It doesn't keep my face matte all day, but it does help control the oils to maintain that soft matte finish with maybe a slightly shiny t-zone.
YSL Beauty Volupté Tint-In-Balm in Touch Me Red | Mini-review here
I yolo-ed super hard at the end of 2017 and got a couple of personalized YSL lip products. I know that there are plenty of more affordable tinted lip balms out there, but drugstore tinted lip balms have always felt too thin for me. I also have a weak spot for personalized items since my name isn't common in Western countries except when people who lack melanin ask "how" I can do something. I have one of the shades from the discontinued Sheer Candy line and that was definitely too thin, not moisturizing, and 100% not worth the money. The newer Volupté Tint-In-Balm is so much better and makes up for what the Sheer Candies lacked. They're still a bit thin, but they're so much more moisturizing and more pigmented and so I end up with beautifully shinny slightly "juicy" lips with just one swipe. I would not recommend layering on more than 2-3 layers at a time though since the moisturizing formula can make the color slip around.
