Another tag! :D Jenny from itsmeeejennyy tagged me to do this tag and since it's the new year, I decided to do it to give some thanks and acknowledge what I'm grateful for during 2014.
First and foremost, thank you Jenny for tagging me! I'm really glad I've gotten to a point where other bloggers have started to tag me to do certain posts (: Jenny always takes out time in her day to read / comment on my posts and I'm so grateful for that. A year ago, barely anyone was really reading my blog and now I have something like a blogging friend.
& now onto the tag!!
2014 was pretty hectic for me. It was the end of my 3rd and beginning of my 4th year at college. I moved apartments practically by myself and started some new chapters in my life. I got not only one, but two jobs and I joined a lab to research working memory and cognitive development. When I look back on 2014, it's clear that I had a lot of things and people that helped me through all of it!
1. Family
Obviously, without my parents I wouldn't be here. They help me a lot and I know I could always call them. My sister and I are very close and I know I could always go to her for advice. Now that I'm almost done with school, more anxiety and panic has set in about my future and my sister has been there to help me through it all. By the way, Happy Birthday Sistaaaaah.
2. My boyfriend
I have known my boyfriend since kindergarten and we got together after senior year of high school (18 years old). He's been my best friend all throughout those years and I couldn't imagine a life without him. I am so incredibly grateful for him because he's the reason why I'm happy and can be happy. It wasn't like I was really sad before I started dating him, but I was so apathetic about everything that nothing mattered to me. He encourages and supports me in everything and I'm going to stop being cheesy right now before someone pukes.
3. My biffle
I intentionally keep names vague, by the way. It was my decision to put myself on the internet like this and I didn't want to name my best friend's name in case it causes problems for her. She has a pretty unique name and it makes me laugh. (: My biffle and I had some bumps a long the way, but I've always told her that I'm so grateful that she was the one to patch things up after our big fight after middle school ended. We went to different high schools and we could have just not talked to each other, but because of her, I still have a very close and wonderful friend that I can share everything with.
4. "Other" friends
I have some other close friends, but if I gave them all individual spots this blog post would be way more than 10. I still have some other things to list out! Most of my friends are those who I have met either in middle school or beginning of high school. I find it somewhat hard for me to make a lot of new and long lasting friendships. As someone describes, I'm a bit of homebody. I don't like to go out and do "normal" early 20 year old things including partying and drinking because I get extremely nervous and anxious about being around strangers. The friends that I'm close to understand that and always put my comfort in their planning. I always have great talks and even really dumb talks with my friends, but they're always fun. I can really imagine myself keeping contact with my core group of friends for the rest of my life.
Just a heads up, but the next few things are definitely not as serious!
5. Food
Food is a necessity, but oh gosh. I love food and I'm grateful for the delicious things that we can taste and eat. There's always something good to eat to match or even enhance my mood. When I go on dates for special events with my boyfriend, we choose fancier places and each time I get so impressed how food can taste so good.
6. Makeup
My blog is mostly all about makeup and it's something that I just really love. During my nasty breakout a few months ago, I hated my skin and how I looked. I just felt terrible looking into mirrors and I would feel pain on my face just by moving it. In hindsight, there are other people with worse acne but this was the worst my skin had ever been. Foundation, concealer, and just bright and distracting lipsticks or eye looks helped me so much with my confidence. I strongly believe that a woman doesn't have to wear makeup to be beautiful, but I'm so grateful that it is there to help me when I don't feel beautiful. I also love how a colored lip just makes my mood get better in general.
7. Internet
This is an "of course!" kind of thing. Without the internet, I wouldn't be able to blog or keep in contact with people. I rely on the internet so much and I'm so glad that I was born into the age of the internet.
8. Music
I played violin for about 7 years and I regret not continuing while in high school. It helped me enjoy music in general a lot more because I knew how much work was put into creating it. I tried to learn guitar too, but something was off with one of the pieces and so it never sounded right. I also never got it fixed so.... it was my fault. I also relied on a lot of angsty rock and emo music in middle school because I thought no one understood. I was suuuuuuch an "emo" and wannabe scene kid during that period of my life. It's embarrassing to look back onto it, but that music scene will always be my favorite. I still listen to "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" by My Chemical Romance when I'm sad/mad about something.
9. School / Education
This is such a "nerdy" thing, but I do enjoy learning more in general. I tend to stray away from STEM topics because it's too technical for me. I like chemistry and stuff, but I don't have enough background in those areas to even be able to start reading publications. I have to rely on summaries for that. What I mostly study right now is culture and the field I'm thinking about joining is medical anthropology. It's really fascinating learning about all these cultures and it's opened my eyes to new understandings so that I wouldn't be so ethnocentric. I like learning, but school itself with standardized exams and stuff just ruins it for me sometimes.
10. The Readers / Commenters on my blog
Without you, I wouldn't be able to keep on doing this. I used to get one or two comments a month at most, but now there's comments on almost every blog post. I don't know if you noticed, but I use "you" instead of general "you all" when I refer to those who read my blog. I feel like it's much more personal and it helps me visualize talking to a person instead of the general internet. So thank you, whoever you are, for staying with me. I'm eternally grateful for your help and support.
I hope you had a happy new year!
